KG4 Standard Operating Procedures.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) exist to provide a framework for KG4 flights. They are to make sure that sorties follow an easy set of steps and to help our crews get into the air quicker and to avoid confusion.

This page details the pre-flight, taxi and take off, form up, transit & formations, attack, return transit and landing SOPs.
Pre-Flight
Crews to meet in Discord/TS and discuss mission/target and appoint Raid Lead and Raid 2IC. The Raid Lead will fly as the #1 aircraft and is responsible for navigation and controlling the attack. Should the Raid Lead become a casualty then Raid 2IC is to control the formation.

-
Select fuel and weapon load as briefed by Raid Lead. The standard load-out is:
-
He-111 H16 - 30% fuel and 8 x SC250
-
He-111 H6 - 30% fuel and 4 x SC250, 1 x SC500
-

-
Spawn aircraft in at the selected airfield.
-
Begin the engine start sequence.
-
Lock gunner positions.
-
Order AI gunners to:
-
Fire at will
-
Engage at normal distance
-
-
Set flaps to 20. Less flap may be required if carrying external heavy bombs (1000Kg or larger)

-
Once both engines are running fully open water & oil radiators and set prop pitch to 100%

-
Set the bombsight to:
-
Bomb drop timing to 0.50
-
Select all internal to drop
-
If carrying heavy external bombs then set to drop each individually
-

Taxi
-
Rail Lead will call:
-
"Lead ready to taxi"
-
-
The formation will answer in sequence:
-
"Two ready"
-
"Three ready"
-
-
Raid Lead will taxi out followed by the formation in sequence. Taxi route will depend on the airfield and server set up

-
Raid Lead will line up on the runway centre:
-
#2 will line up on the left
-
#3 will line up on the right
-
The last aircraft to line up is to inform the Raid Lead that all aircraft are in position
-

-
Larger formations may require multiple take off in smaller groups
Take Off
-
Raid Lead will call:
-
"Running up" and advance throttle to 50%
-
"Lead Rolling" and advance throttle to 100% (Take Off power)
-
Formation will follow Lead to take off
-
The last aircraft is to call "Group is up" when off of the runway
-
Reduce throttle and prop pitch to 70% as soon as is safe to do so (DO NOT exceed 1 minute at take off power)
-
Landing gear and flaps are to be raised by individual pilots to ensure airspeed and safety is maintained
-

Form Up
-
Larger formations (5+ aircraft) will form up in the air whilst orbiting the airfield
-
Lead will depart and set up an orbit, as appropriate, at 250 Kph. The remainder of the formation will take off and form up on the Lead aircraft. By maintaining 250 Kph all chasing aircraft will easily catch up to Lead
-
Once formed up Lead will then set the course to target/route
-
Raid Lead will aim to maintain a steady 200Kph and 5 m/s climb.
-
Raid Lead will call out heading changes as required
-
The standard formation is the Vic of three aircraft:
-
Lead in the centre
-
#2 on the left
-
#3 on the right
-
-
After take off aircraft are to manoeuvre to their assigned position
-
Formations of 5 may extend the Vic with #4 and #5 flying on #2 and #3
-
Formations of 6 or more can build upon the basic Vic as shown

Transit
-
All aircraft when flying in formation are responsible for maintaining their position
-
Lead will call out any course, altitude or speed changes. Throttle & prop pitch call outs provide a baseline for the formation, individual aircraft must adjust as required to either speed up or slow down to maintain position
-
Communication is essential. If you are falling behind, call it out

The Attack
-
There are two types of attack, Drop On Command and Individual Target:
Drop On Command
-
Once the general target area is identified Lead will call "Area identified". This alerts the formation that the attack run is beginning
-
Lead will carry out the aiming for the formation and should be the only one heads down in the bombsight
-
Course changes will be required to line up on the target, Lead will call "Adjusting left/Adjusting right" as required
-
Once the actual target can be clearly seen Lead will call "Target identified"
-
When ready Lead will call "Open doors". The formation will open bomb doors
-
10-15 seconds before release Lead will call "Stand by to drop"
-
At the release point Lead will call "3...2...1...drop, drop, drop"
-
The formation will push their bomb drop button on their flight stick/keyboard
-
Once bombs are released close the bomb doors
-
During the Drop on Command formation pilots are to maintain position and to drop when ordered

Individual Target
-
This is used to attack a number of dispersed target areas at a common location
-
Pilots are to be pre-briefed on their own mission target
-
Pilots are to maintain adequate spacing to prevent mid-air collisions
-
Once the general target area is identified Lead will call "Area identified". This alerts the formation that the attack run is beginning
-
Individual pilots are to go heads down in the bomb sight and identify their mission target
-
Individual pilots are to aim and drop on their mission target
-
Once weapons are released the formation is to regroup on the Lead

Return Transit
-
As per TRANSIT above

Landing
-
Landing a large group can challenging, pilots are to maintain spacing to prevent collisions in the air or on the ground
-
Lead will direct the descent rate, throttle & prop pitch
-
Approaching the airfield Lead will call "Go Trail". The formation will form a single line behind the Lead and begin to spread out
-
Lead will call out speed, alt & descent rate to allow the formation to adjust and maintain spacing
-
Lead will overfly the runway/field to provide a visual indication of other players and to warn them that the formation is inbound
-
Lead will extend past the runway/field before making a left/right turn as required to line up for landing. Speed, flap settings and the lowering of landing gear is to be called out
-
Lead will land first followed by the formation
-
Do not stop on the runway
-
Vacate left/right as required
Three ship Vic formation
Five ship extended Vic formation
Six ship extended Vic formation
